Presidential Grand Tour

Presidential Grand Tour

March 1 through October 31, 2014

(GT #3 of 4 Team Strange Memory Lane GTs.
Originally run by Team Strange Airheads in 2001)

Stop for a moment and ask yourself:

What’s the deal with our country’s fascination with our dead ex-leaders?? Let’s face it...we complain about them when they’re alive, dislike what they do, etc....but boy, just let them die and the first thing we want to do is make a trek to any namesake area and buy french fries or some other tacky souvenir named in their honor.

Did you know there are 18 towns in the US named Nixon?

It’s a really weird scenario to us, and we’d like you to partake in the weirdness with us on a motorcycle event we’ve (re-)dreamed up for 2014.

Here's what the Presidential Tour involves
To complete the Presidential Tour, you must visit at least 25 points from Presidential cities, counties, and/or the bonuses.  Rally Guidelines and official rules are shown below.

A) Entry fee is $50. ($35 if you already signed up for another $50 Team Strange Memory Lane GT).  Rider kits will be sent out initially around February 15, and thereafter, upon signup.

Your entry includes: Rally flag and 30th Anniversary Team Strange T-shirt for $50 entries.  Discounted entries do not include a T-shirt.

B) Tour officially starts March 1, 2014.

C) You may not request a specific rider number. Numbers are issued in the order that paid registration is received. You will have the same flag and rider number for every Team Strange Memory Lane GT for which you register. One flag, four GTs.

D) Proof of your visit will be documented by a photo of your motorcycle, rally flag and a city or county sign. The city or county sign must include the name of one of our 43 Presidents. Yes, we know there have been 44 Presidents but Grover Cleveland served non-consecutive terms. Show off! We will only accept one entry for Grover Cleveland so that makes 43. That is Team Strange math. Don’t get mad about it. Just focus trying to think of any city or county that you could use for Cleveland. Hmmm……

E) Each President can be claimed once using a city name and a county name. “HEY!!” you ask.... does that mean I can go to a City and a county named Washington.....and they’ll both count?? Why, yes indeedy.... 43 Presidents now becomes 86 possibilities.

F) We recommend you use Google Maps or something similar to find your cities and counties. We are not giving any hints.

G) This sounds too easy. What about bonus locations? You’re already reading our (very small) minds. Keep reading below.

H) “This sounds like the weirdest ride I’ve ever heard of.” Exactly right, we say. Better enter soon before all the good #’s are taken...

K) You skipped I. Yes, we did.

Presidential Tour Scoring

Unlike other Grand Tours you may have ridden, your final finishing position on the Presidential Tour is decided by points, not locations visited. As you’ve probably already guessed from the name, all locations on this event share the same name as US Presidents. Scoring on this event is as follows:

A) Every city correctly obtained: 1 point

B) Every county correctly obtained: 1 point

C) Every Presidential Birthplace correctly obtained. (maximum of 5 locations): 4 points

D) Every “Big Bonus” location correctly obtained. (no limit): 10 points

E) Every “Really, Really Big Bonus” location correctly obtained. (no limit): 30 points

Big Bonus Locations

A) Rapid City, SD: Mount Rushmore

B) Yorba Linda, CA: Richard M. Nixon Library

C) Washington, D.C.: Washington Monument

D) Washington: State Limit Sign

E) Dillon, CO: Eisenhower Tunnel

F) Johnson City, TX: Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park

Really, Really Big Bonus
A photo of you, your motorcycle and any living current or ex-US President.
