2014 Team Lyle Rally (MN)

2014 Team Lyle Minnesota
8-Hour Rally

July 19, 2014

Looking for fun and adventure?

The 4th edition of the Team Lyle Minnesota 8-hour Rally (TLM) will be held on Saturday, July 19th at Leo's South in Lakeville, MN (map) . The Team Lyle MN rally is the perfect place to dip your toe into the Team Strange world of adventure that is long distance motorcycle rally riding. Like past TLM events, you will not need to have a camera, a GPS unit, a computer, or even a modern motorcycle to have fun and compete. You need only a sense of humor and the desire to spend a day having a most excellent adventure riding your motorcycle to unique and historic locations in Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and northern Iowa.

This scavenger hunt is a low key, casual and fun event whose main focus is raising money for Eddie’s Road through rider entry fees, donations, and in a new twist this year – games! You might even win a few bucks “Tossing your Cookies” or “Chucking your Nuts” at the rally’s finish.

You create your own ride. We supply a menu of destinations for you to choose from. In most cases the bonus locations are located in small towns or along low volume motorcycle friendly roads. A successful rally rider will create, from a selection of various point value bonus locations, an 8 hour point scoring ride. Riders follow simple directions to answer a question about a bonus location or on occasion pick up a cash register receipt or like item to document your visit to a specific town or location.

GPS coordinates are NOT supplied. The information supplied on the route sheets will enable riders to find the bonus locations on State Highway maps of Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin (not provided). Rally staff will be on hand at to check in riders at Leo’s South in Lakeville by 6:30 am. We will have coffee and pastries available. There will be a brief riders meeting held at 7:45 am with the route sheets handed out as quickly as possible. Riders will have about an hour to plan routes prior to the rally clock starting. Riders will be free to leave at 9:00 am - the rally runs to 5:00 pm. If a rider is not checked in by 5:00:00 pm you will be classified as a DNF. No grace period will be accorded to riders you’ll need to plan your ride carefully.

Your $35 entry fee, or $50 if entering with a passenger, will help to support at-risk youth through Eddie's Road, which is a program of the Eddie James Foundation for Children. Founded in memory of Eddie James, this non-profit foundation directly funds and supports a variety of quality public and private programs dedicated to assisting abused children and young adults. Our focus is to stop the cycle of abuse through proper education, mentoring, counseling, and activities that encourage children to reach their full potential without the influences of violence, addiction, or neglect.

This year all riders/passengers that enter will receive a motorcycle helmet shield cleaning kit, a commemorative coffee mug and 4th Edition Team Lyle Minnesota stickers. Awards will be given to the Overall Top finisher and to the Top Three finishers in two classes of riders – Teddy Bears & Grizzled Bears. Bonus points will be awarded to older motorcycles based on a weighted model year class structure. The Team Lyle Minnesota will be a great way to stretch the legs of that piece of history in your garage, we’d love to see your classic or antique machine compete in this event. See the entry form for rider and machine class information.

Freaks, Geeks, and Clowns welcome. Team Strange Uniform Rules apply to this event and must be reviewed, understood, and adhered to by all entrants. THE TEAM LYLE MINNESOTA RALLY IS NOT A RACE.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Team Strange Airheads.  Besides having some of the very best long distance rides and riders in the country, bowling and BBQ have been staples of Team Strange Airheads illustrious history.
