August 27, 2002 If
this is Tuesday, we must be at Moon Motors in Monticello, MN. For
those not in the know, Moon Motors is the premier BMW dealership in the entire
upper Midwest. Riders coming here today with life (or at least rally)
threatening problems, could fare worse than to find themselves in the quite
capable hands of BMW wrench Dr. Earl Moon and the ever-unflappable service
manager Brian Aurentz. They've already handled a small truckload of service:
clutch cables, oil changes and the like, and that was just on the Rally staff
and spectators bikes. More
info later as the service drama will no doubt unfold. Meanwhile,
a few updates on rally happenings: Only
12 riders took the bonus of visiting 2-time Ironbutt Rally rider Boyd Young at
the Texoma Ford dealership he manages in Denison, TX. This comes as quite a
surprise to your Rallymasters as this bonus was on 3 of the 4 routesheets riders
received, and was weighted quite heavily with points to ensure the riders would
visit our friend. As of noon, only 1 rider had visited with Ironbutt
legend Eddie Otto at his place in Chicago, IL. Also as of noon, our friends Rayder
and Kim Swanson at the Two Rivers Saloon in Niobrara, NE report only 1 rider has
been through. Huh?
So
if the riders didn't go to Denison TX, didn't go to Niobrara NE Rider
Jim Owen has already been on the phone with Moon Motors--seems his rear tire was
having a bit of a problem holding it's breath last night. If Jim can limp it in,
they've already got the tire with his name on it. Go Jim go. Otherwise,
SR500 pilot Jim Winterer and Dave "babmikiller" Nelson were spotted at
"The Cattle Drive" in Dallas yesterday morning. Other than that, you
know what we know. For
those in the MN area, this was just e-mailed to me today:
Hey
Dirkster! What's
your predictions for leg 2 bonuses? I'll
neither confirm nor deny such rumors. send
me your e-mails, news, rider spottings, and nude photos to:
