Grand Tour of Georgia

2026 Grand Tour of Georgia

April 1 - November 15, 2026

Rural churches have long played a foundational role in shaping the social, cultural, and moral fabric of America, serving not only as places of worship but also as vital community anchors in small towns and farming regions across Georgia. These churches have historically provided a shared space where faith, fellowship, and civic life intersect.

In communities where populations are sparse and public institutions were limited, the local church became a gathering hall, a support network, and a symbol of continuity across generations. Weddings, funerals, holiday celebrations, potluck dinners, and town meetings frequently center around the church building, reinforcing bonds among neighbors who may live miles apart.

Historically, rural congregations have played a role in broader national movements, including abolition, temperance, and civil rights, demonstrating that even small, geographically isolated churches can influence the moral direction of the country. For many families, church membership marks a multigenerational legacy; the same pews may seat grandparents, parents, and children, reinforcing a sense of identity and belonging that transcends individual lifetimes.

The 2026 Grand Tour of Georgia will give you the opportunity to explore some of the rural churches that were constructed well over 150 years ago and still play an active role in their communities. We have identified 24 rural churches we think you will enjoy traveling to and learning about their history. The churches may be visited in any order and you will need to visit at least 22 to be a finisher.

Special thanks to the Historic Rural Churches of Georgia for information and location of these churches. Visit them at www.hrcga.org.

The Tour can be completed anytime between April 1st and November 15th.

Registration begins on March 1st through the Ridemaster website.
